Contrary to Sue Donald's letter, Chepstow

Community

Hospital does not provide A and E facilities.

It has a minor injuries unit, but is otherwise made up

of

two doctors' surgeries, plus general purpose

facilities.

Accident and Emergency requirements are dealt

with at

Newport, Abergavenny, Bristol or Gloucester, as

thought

appropriate by the "experts".

No doubt, like Monmouth, the present Private

Finance

Initiative, funded site is totally undersized and

unsuitable

for the area, but, as Tesco's original offer to fund

the

building and equipping of a new hospital was

rejected

(admittedly they wanted their store on the old St

Lawrence

Hospital site and saw their offer as bait to encourage

approval for the same). We have had the worst

possible

outcome, for which we will be paying for many years

to

come.
