A WOMEN’S- only kickboxing class is coming to Monmouth this September, aiming to instil confidence in women while promoting strength and community spirit across the town.
Elite Ladies Kickboxing provides a community where women can come together, learn new skills and support one another. The classes are coming to Monmouth following the high interest in the existing classes in Cinderford and Ross-on-Wye, as well as interest from women in the Monmouth area.
Monmouth’s kickboxing class will take place at Rockfield Centre every Thursday in September and will be led by instructor Becki.
“It’s going to be so exciting, it’s going to be our first class that is coming to Wales. I have been kickboxing for two years and I love it. It’s a great way to meet new people, I have made so many friends,” said Becki.
The classes are suitable for everyone, from beginners to those with more experience. The friendly environment allows attendees to socialise, with some saying they have made their best friends at the club.
Kickboxing can help women improve their fitness, build confidence, meet new people and relieve stress.
Franchise Lead, Chloe from Elite Ladies Kickboxing, said: “We found previously that lots of martial arts places can be quite intimidating and we really just want to make a welcoming space for women of all ages and abilities for people who just want to go it a go.
“Loads of people are really nervous to try it. Coming in and learning a new skill, building fitness and having fun with a diverse group of women gives them a level of confidence to take into the world.
“We get people who are super shy and won’t talk to anyone and the hardest part for them is just walking through the door in the first place and seeing them progress whether they have been here a few weeks or a few years. The levelling up with what they can do and achieve in class and out is huge, we see it all the time.
“One thing I love about it is the confidence boost that it gives me. It feels super empowering. I love the classes; the instructors are amazing,” said one attendee.
“I decided to go for kickboxing because I always loved the idea of learning martial arts. When I saw it coming to the town it was a no brainer. I absolutely love it. It makes you feel like a bit of a ninja.”
Another participant, said: “I’ve been kickboxing for about a year and a half. I started kickboxing because I moved to the Forest of Dean after I left the army and I really had a sense that I lost that community that I had in the army.
“I joined kickboxing and met my best friends, I’ve got a community again where I just have the best people to have so much fun with and it’s a brilliant work out as well.”
