Monmouth Comprehensive School has teamed up with Monmouth Leisure Centre to give sixth form students a new space.

The leisure centre's Kymin Cafe is to be transformed by the school's caterers Redcliffe into a coffee shop for use by senior students as well as leisure centre users.

Headteacher Carole Herman sees the project as something for the community as a whole.

"For a long time, the accommodation for sixth formers at the school has not been appropriate and we have been looking for ways of improving that on school premises," she said.

"At the moment the sixth formers have the stage in the hall, which is not ideal, and the old sixth form common room, which is now a library.

"This will give them a nice space where they can socialise, maybe do bits of work that don't require silent study, and enjoy a coffee at the same time."
