Monnow Street will soon be taking on a new look as plans for a trial period at the narrow end of the street take effect in January.
Following the principles of urban design consultant Ben Hamilton-Bailey, the top end of town will be narrowed in an attempt to streamline the flow of traffic through the town.
The system is based on no-one having right of way, forcing motorists, pedestrians and other road users to make eye contact and decide among themselves when it is safe to proceed.
Councillor Bob Hayward told councillors at a meeting last Monday (11th October): "The plan is to begin a five month trial period starting in January, to see how it affects the traffic flow. If the whole idea of de-regulation is to go forward, we need to know how it will work."
