THE bungalows for elderly residents in Charles Road, Dingestow, have been given new lighting thanks to a joint effort between Monmouthshire County Council and Mitchel Troy Community Council.

Local County Councillor Duncan Anstey said: "There had been a problem with poor lighting for a number of years giving great concern to the local elderly residents."

Luckily pedestal path lighting became available via a disused system in Abergavenny and the Housing Department arranged for the transfer of the lighting and part funding for the installation. Mitchel Troy Community Council then stepped in and funded the remainder of the cost.

"It was a great all-round effort which will benefit many," said Mr Anstey.

Local resident Ruth Morgan said: "It's absolutely fantastic. The dark nights and slippery paths were a great worry. We are very grateful to all those who helped."
