CALDICOT town centre could be revamped to make it more appealing to shoppers.
Caldicot Town team has access to £200,000 of section 106 monies to promote and develop the town centre.
The group met last Tuesday (2nd December) to discuss an action plan for the town centre. It was decided the first step should be to employ an urban designer to suggest a few different ideas as to how best to improve the town centre.
AM John Griffiths met with the town team least week to discuss the regeneration. He said: "Caldicot has a great community, and it's important the shops and services continue to thrive. Local government, businesses, residents and community groups can all play their part.
"As part of necessary progress the new ASDA store must be better connected with the town centre and good urban design should drive future work to the centre."
Other items on the agenda were events for the town.
Dan Davies, Monmouthshire County Council enterprise co-ordinator, was in attendance to give support and guidance about events for the town.
He said: "In November more than 15,000 people attended events in Caldicot, showing that the town can rival Chepstow in attracting numbers. The fireworks display was a spectacular success, as was the Christmas Light switch on, which was probably the biggest event in the town centre for a long time."
Members agreed that more events would be a good way to further boost the town's presence in Monmouthshire. Chairman of Caldicot Town Team, Aaron Reeks, said: "Markets and events are vital for getting people into the town.
"But what we can do is dependant on the involvement of everybody in the
community."
