A village's flooding problems will only get worse if it is included in Monmouthshire's Local Development Plan (LDP), say residents.

A petition signed by 74 people in Llanfair Kilgeddin was presented to Monmouthshire County Council (MCC) at a county council meeting on 1st July of this year.

Despite this, and a number of letters to councillors and officers, members approved the inclusion of plans to build five properties in the village.

Villagers claim the proposed field floods, historically once a year. The water runs through Gethin Place and collects in St Mary's Yard, with water also draining from St Mary's Hill.

Residents have been asking for flood relief measures to be put in place since 2001. An 18inch trench was dug by MCC but many residents have taken flood prevention into their own hands.

Some homes now have trenches in front of them while others have built brick walls in attempt to keep the water out.
