A phenomenal £16,664 was raised for St. David’s Hospice care at Monmouth MOT Centre in memory of employee DJ Williams on Saturday 14th March.

The day was incredibly well supported, and had a flying start as over £6000 in Just Giving donations had already been received. The page will remain open for further donations until Friday 27th March.

The raffle turned out to be hugely popular with a total of 62 items donated by generous sponsors.

Monmouth MOT covered the full costs of organising, insurance and set up costs, along with donating several prizes.

N S James Butchers and Isabel’s Bakehouse provided food throughout the day and donated the majority of takings back to the charity and the Welsh Cake Hut provided 600 Welsh cakes free of charge.

The 12 hour spin-bike challenge led by the Monmouth MOT team proved tough for many, but the biggest challenge was the one that faced Andrew Howells and Chris Morgan, who took on the cycling element of Ironman Wales. Not only did they cycle the full 112 miles but thanks to the wonders of technology they were set up to mimic the exact contours of the Tenby course, so their uphill challenges were predominantly missed by the visitors. They were grateful for the musical support provided by Black Rats from Abergavenny.

Mike Rhys–Williams of Monmouth MOT reflected ‘’We are all thrilled with the result of the day – it was a superb example of the Monmouth community coming together for a great cause. There was so many individuals and companies who supported the event with help during the day, loan of equipment, or prizes for the incredible raffle.

The day was packed with such fun and generosity – a perfect tribute to DJ, who would have absolutely loved the day!’
