Plans have been drawn up to re-instate the Naval Temple on the Kymin to its former glory.

An earlier renovation used materials now not deemed suitable for a listed building and the general appearance has deteriorated over the years.

The National Trust has applied for listed building consent to repair and restore a number of features, including replacing Britannia's trident which has disappeared.

Built by public subscription in 1800, the Georgian structure is unique in its commemoration of the second anniversary of the British naval victory at the Battle of the Nile in 1798, and the 16 admirals who won important victories during the late 18th century when British naval power was at its greatest.
