A REVIEW into the way the museum service and Tourist Information Centre is run will take place across the county.
Chepstow councillors were given a presentation by Ian Saunders, head of tourism, leisure and culture at Monmouthshire County Council (MCC) on Wednesday 28th January.
Mr Saunders reassured Chepstow Town Council that no decision had been made to shut any services but that a review was taking place to make services more effective, particularly in light of recent budget cuts.
The council officer said it was not MCC's intention to replace staff with volunteers but to create a sustainable model of running the services.
Deputy mayor Dale Rooke expressed concern over a potential loss of curators. Although there was no mention of job losses, Mr Saunders said MCC might need to "re-position staff".
It was suggested by Councillor Peter Farley that cross-border co-operation should be considered in the running of Chepstow's TIC.
He said: "We are here in the Wye Valley right next door to the Forest of Dean. I believe they should be shouldering some of the burdens of running the services."
The review is likely to be presented to MCC in mid-May.
