Police are appealing for information regarding the whereabouts of an absconder from HMP Prescoed.

Wyndham Richard Thomas was convicted of aggravated burglary and murder in 1997 and was serving a life sentence. He is not a registered sex offender.

Wyndham Thomas is described as white, five feet seven inches tall, medium build with a scar on the right side of his forehead.

It is believed the 33-year-old has contacts throughout the South Wales area, particularly Caerphilly and Maesteg.

It is believed there may be a potential risk to the public due to the fact he is no longer in the custody of the prison service.

Gwent Police has activated its operational plan with the aim of locating him and is working closely with the prison.
