More than £146,000 of money from housing developments is to be used to improve public transport in Monmouthshire.

The funding, which has already been secured by Monmouthshire County Council (MCC), is set to be released for use to support bus services and bus infrastructure in the county.

According to a report that went before councillors on Wednesday (14th March), the allocation of funding will enable improvements to the existing bus services and prevent threatened service deterioration.

As part of Section 106 agreements, MCC requires developers to provide funding for public transport improvements to enable adequate bus connectivity to/ from key local destinations, including town centres, and schools.

MCC has received a number of Section 106-related funding, and these must now be used by the spend date, or they will need to be returned. It is therefore now proposed that the Section 106 contributions are released to enable service improvements or prevent threatened service deterioration, or bus infrastructure improvements, as set out.

For details about where the money is expected to be spent, see this week’s Beacon, available across the county now.
