SIR,
I write regarding a recent letter in the Beacon in response to the flood petition.
I am very disappointed that we, the public, have not received the response from our MP which we would have wished.
The subject of immigration was irrelevant, and I would appreciate it if our MP would respond to one subject at a time.
On that formidable morning of the flood, I was one of those residents directly affected. I and others do not recall seeing the MP's presence or any county councillor for that matter; we only met representatives of Melin Housing.
As for the emergency services, the fire service did a brilliant job of clearing the floodgate, which in the first instance should not have been blocked with grass cuttings and debris.
As for MCC, the sandbags were delivered after the event. Are they not forewarned of extreme weather conditions?
We as a community would like to ask what safeguards will be put in place for future flooding, and what our MP will do to apply pressure to protect your constituents.
I find it unbelievable that houses are still being planned for this area.
Monmouth does not have enough resources for its population as it is. We need another surgery, another school, and more importantly, there is no designated ambulance for the town.
