A NATIONAL campaign to support small businesses has received the backing of a local MP.
David Davies visited several retailers in Monmouth over the weekend to mark Small Business Saturday, including Yvonne Perry at Envee on Monnow Street.
Small Business Saturday UK, a non-commercial grassroots campaign, highlights small business success and encourages consumers to ‘shop local’.
The day itself takes place on the first Saturday in December, but the campaign aims to have a wider lasting impact and celebrated its 10th anniversary this year,.
“From corner shops to cafes, small businesses are the backbone of our economy and the heart of local communities across the country,” said Mr Davies.
“Small Business Saturday was a celebration this weekend of the incredible work they do, as well as an opportunity to say thank you for creating jobs and giving life to our high streets.
“After a difficult couple of years and with tough economic conditions ahead, I encourage everyone to buy their seasonal gifts and produce locally this Christmas.
“Monmouthshire County Council is providing free weekend parking in all council-owned car parks throughout December. So do please support our wonderful businesses during these crucial months of winter trading.”
