Sir,
Monmouth is in desperate need of more car parking in the town centre.
Sadly the playing fields opposite the fire/ ambulance stations, are proposed to become a car park, supposedly to help with the parking problems in town. To gain all grants available for recreational use, a bike track and skateboarding area will be built alongside the car park.
The rumour mentioned in the Beacon letter of 2nd January of a new hospital car park, is a more likely outcome for the area because the area is closer to the hospital than the shops.
It can be foreseen that the next action may be double yellow lines painted from Watery Lane to the Rockfield Estate roundabout, resulting in fast traffic making access to the bike track highly dangerous for the kids being 'kept off the streets'.
