Cuts "above and beyond what we have been experiencing" are on the cards for Monmouthshire. Leader of the council, Peter Fox, has spoken out about a meeting with the Welsh minister of local government, Lesley Griffiths, last Wednesday (4th June). Councillor Fox said: "Things are going to get a lot worse. The money just won't be flowing through. "We need to maintain prudent management to help with this." News of the cuts were broken to county councillors following a discussion at cabinet of an underspend of £877,000. This surplus money will now be contributed to council reserves which Councillor Fox said can "act as a buffer" for the cuts to come. He went on to say "I will make no excuse there's an underspend but it's actually good news." Councillor Bob Greenland said: "It's depressing to think we now face more cuts and there's still a lot of work to be done." Monmouthshire County Council (MCC) was required to fund a £9million gap between expenditure and resources for 2014/15.
