Despite heavy rain on Wednesday 29th August, the 2012 Monmouthshire Show took place as planned the next day and a great day was had by all.

Visitor numbers were slightly down on 2011's record visitor numbers but the Monmouthshire Show Society were delighted with the turn out of about 19,000 people.

"The turn out today has exceeded our expectations after yesterday's rainfall and we are delighted to see visitors from Monmouthshire and the surrounding counties with us today in support of this fantastic event," said Andrew James, Honorary Treasurer.

Show Secretary, Anna Williams said, "This year has been a difficult year for agricultural shows and equestrian events across the country with many events being forced to cancel due to the weather.

"We are delighted we were able to hold the 2012 Monmouthshire Show and hope that all our visitors enjoyed the fantastic day out that was on offer.

"Our Main Ring attraction, The Adrenaline Tour, pleased the crowds with his hair raising jumps 30ft in the air and the Country Matters Ring entertained the crowds throughout the day with an action packed programme that included a surprise visit from Kate Humble."

Vicki Bull, Livestock Secretary, praised livestock exhibitors from near and far who turned out in record numbers to support the Monmouthshire Show.

Entries in the Sheep and Cattle lines have been increasing in recent years thanks to the efforts of the show committee and the animals on display at the show are a true reflection of the quality of farming we have in Monmouthshire and the surrounding counties.

The Grand Parade was a magnificent site to behold with everything from the Champion Diary animal to the Champion Young Handlers on Parade.

The Monmouthshire Show society would like to thank the teams of volunteers who work tirelessly to enable the Monmouthshire Show to take place. The Attik in Monmouth, Ross and Monmouth Sea Cadets, Monmouth Rotary Club, Monmouth Lions and FC Redside plus many more individuals help throughout the day and in the days leading up to the show and we are very grateful to all of them.

The society are also grateful to the visitors who support the show, come rain or shine, and would like to apologise for any delays experienced at this year's show when entering the showground. The terrible weather conditions on Wednesday made moving vehicles in and out of the showground very difficult and created some queues on the roads that were longer than in previous years.

Once visitors were on site, the show had plenty to offer and the committee members worked hard throughout the day to reduce the levels of mud, providing wood chip and straw as bedding in sticky patches.

Full lists of prize winners will be available shortly, for any further information or photographs of the 2012 show please visit the website http://www.monmouthshow.co.uk">www.monmouthshow.co.uk.

The show committee look forward to welcoming everyone back to the 2013 show on Thursday 29th August.
