MONMOUTHSHIRE MP Catherine Fookes has shared an update on the planned construction works for Inglis Bridge in Osbaston, Monmouth, requesting clarity on the ongoing delays.
The bridge, which was due to reopen by the end of this year, remains closed with no repair work yet underway. This follows concerns raised by Natural Resources Wales that the original repair plans posed a potential flood risk due to scaffolding being placed in the river.
As a result, the Ministry of Defence, which is responsible for the structure, has drawn up revised plans to lift the bridge out of the river, carry out the repairs on land, and reinstall it once complete.
The MOD is now awaiting final sign-off on these plans before the contractor can begin work.
Ms Fookes said: “I know how frustrating these delays are- we've all been waiting so long to have this bridge open again. Please rest assured that I am doing everything I ca to ensure the bridge reopens as soon as possible.
“I’ve asked for an updated timeline and completion date to share with residents, and I’ll keep pushing to make sure this work moves forward quickly.
“It hopefully won’t be much longer until we can all celebrate together and cross Inglis Bridge once again.”
Catherine has written to the Reserve Forces and Cadets Association for Wales, requesting an updated timeline and completion date. She has also offered her full support to help move the project forward.
