DESPITE the rainy weather conditions, Monmouthshire County Council's Chairman raised £100 from council staff and members last month on Shades Day – an event that encourages everyone to wear their sunglasses to protect their eyes from damaging UV sunlight. Chairman Susan White wore her favourite sunglasses spent the day encouraging staff at County Hall to give money to charity. "I couldn't believe it when I came to work on Shades Day and the rain was tipping down! However, I braved the weather and staff were delighted to support this very worthwhile campaign. We should all be aware of eye health and protecting our eyes from harmful sunlight by wearing sunglasses is a simple way of preventing eye disease."
