The arrival of the royal baby was celebrated with a bang, or three, on Monday night (22nd July) as a canon at Usk Castle was fired.
Both the castle and Monmouthshire County Council is flying both the Union Flag and the Draig Goch at its headquarters in Usk to celebrate the birth of the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge's son.
Cllr David Dovey, chairman of the council, said: "On behalf of Monmouthshire County Council, I would like to offer my congratulations to the royal couple on the birth of their first child, the third in line to the to the throne.
"I am absolutely delighted that the baby is safe and well and that his mother is fine. In common with public bodies throughout the Commonwealth, we're flying our national flags today in celebration.
"I'm sure that people throughout the county will be as delighted as I am and join me in wishing our new Prince every health and happiness.
"When our son was born, we were very aware that we were starting on an adventure as a new young family – an experience that could not be repeated.
"I am sure that the royal couple will make every effort to ensure that they do not miss a moment of their adventure with their new son. I am sure we will all wish them every happiness."
Council leader Peter Fox said: "I am absolutely delighted at the news of the royal birth.
"The birth of an heir to the throne is always a special occasion, and one that I know the people of Monmouthshire will join me in celebrating.
"And it's also significant that for the first time in over a century, we have three living heirs to the throne.
"In these times of change, uncertainty and economic difficulty it is more important than ever that this continuity – from her Majesty the Queen's 61 years on the throne through to knowing who our Head of State will be for decades ahead – can help give us a sense of who we are, where we have come from and where we are going.
"On a personal note, as a parent I know just how significant the birth of your first child is. Amidst the pomp and sense of national occasion, there is a human story here – that of a young couple bringing a child into the world and facing together the challenge and infinite joy of parenthood. I wish them every good fortune and happiness."
Monmouth Assembly Member Nick Ramsay was delighted at the news of the birth of the royal baby.
"It's wonderful news, and I'm pleased for them both and for the country.
"I'm sure the people of Monmouthshire and across the whole UK are delighted by the news and pleased most of all that mother and baby are doing well."
