MONMOUTH’S budding West End stars have scooped £1,500 for their theatre group.

Three members of Monmouth Music Theatre Youth (MMTY) travelled to Pontypool last month to compete for a cut of the Gwent High Sheriff’s Community Fund.

Josh Morgan, Gracie Follows and Holly Ikin joined 28 community groups who all pitched for funding as part of the grant-making event Your Voice, Your Choice.

To win funding, the group had two minutes to pitch why they should be awarded a grant.

Josh, 14, said: “We had to give our pitch in front of all the groups who were competing, they’d then mark you out of 10. The highest scoring groups would get funding.

“Holly read out a poem about MMTY and in between the verses we’d sing and dance to show what we can do.

“We were the only group in Monmouth to receive funding. The money will go to our next show Into the Woods in October.”

MMTY will be holding auditions for Into the Woods on Monday 18th April. Josh will choreograph the dancing aspect of the show.

Into the Woods is a musical written by Stephen Sondheim and intertwines the plots of several fairytales.
