As Monmouth traders assess the impact of the floods, some have been able to fully reopen already.
Paws pet shop in the Oldway Centre and the Boat House Gallery are just two of the shops that have managed to reopen on their ground floor.
Other traders, such as hairdresser Hair By Jones and ladieswear shop Harts, have managed to open on the upper floors, although due to the extent of the flooding, a full reopening will be some way off until the waterlogged floor can be relaid.
Monnow Bridge Fish and Chips had been told by their telephone provider that their phone lines would still be charged for, but have heard good news from BT now that their payments will be frozen for six months.
The Beacon has asked for clarification from BT whether this applies to all traders and homeowners affected by the floods.
Monmouthshire Building Society, one of the premises affected, is committing thousands of pounds through their Charitable Foundation to help local businesses and community groups. Monmouth Town Council Mayor's Fund provides grants up to £2,000 for residents, independent businesses, and community groups affected by flooding. Support may include essential goods, emergency equipment, replacement items, utility bill support or community response needs.
