There is a public service in commemoration of the 80th Anniversary of VJ Day on Friday August 15, where Monmouthshire will officially commemorate the effective end of the Second World War.
On August 15, 1945, Japan surrendered to the allied forces following the dropping of the atomic bomb on Hiroshima. The official act of surrender, however, would not come until September 2nd that year.
This Friday, the commemoration will start at 11am at Parade Square, The Castle in Monmouth.
This public service would enable a remembrance of those who fought after VE Day and would eventually bring the Second World War to an end, wreaths will also be laid in this service.
