SIR

Monmouth is a great place to host a wedding.

As parents of two children planning weddings in 2014, and with one of those weddings behind us already, we are thinking ourselves very lucky to be living in Monmouth.

Finding a suitable and affordable venue for a reception in the Hertfordshire/London area has proved to be something of a challenge, as has locating reasonable accommodation nearby for wedding guests.

In Monmouth though, we have found ourselves spoiled for choice on both counts. Our daughter and her fiancé got married in January in St Mary's Church and we held the reception in the Shire Hall.

The church was and always will be a beautiful place to get married and the Shire Hall proved to be quite exceptional for the reception. To have the run of such a beautiful and historic building was a rare privilege at a very affordable price.

Food and live music in the beautiful function room, speeches in the courtroom, games in the council chamber and a photobooth in the holding cells, provided a unique opportunity for a memorable day for us and our guests.

We have had numerous rave reviews of the big day. Evening deliveries of fish and chips from the Seven Seas and pizzas from Pizza Express topped it all off.

Most of our guests had travelled from out of the area so we needed a fair bit of accommodation, and we were lucky to be able to get all of our guests booked into the Queen's Head, the Punch House or the King's Head.

Recent refurbishments of the Queen's Head and the Punch House have meant that Monmouth is now very well supplied with excellent, reasonably priced accommodation. We were extremely well looked after and it really couldn't have been more convenient for our wedding guests.

To conclude, Monmouth is a great place to host a wedding. Many thanks to the many people who helped to make it such a special day.
