A state of the art CCTV system has been installed at Monmouth Sports Association’s ground.
The cameras have been installed folloiwng ongoing antisocial behaviour at the site.
Monmouth’s Sport Association (MSA) which holds the lease and maintains responsibility for the sports grounds, developed a project to increase the security and safety of the grounds for its members and the public.
Andy Tabb, the project lead, worked with local partners, to develop a plan to install a state of the art CCTV system which covers all parts of the grounds.
The area surrounding the clubhouse as well as the tennis courts, the multi-use games area, the football stand, car park and the fields themselves are now all monitored on a 24x7 basis with high definition imagery and video footage being recorded.
The MSA would like to thank Monmouth Town Council for funding the project, with a further donation provided by Monmouth Rotary Club.
Andrew Mason, Community Safety Officer for Monmouthshire County Council, said “We welcome the installation of CCTV at the Monmouth Sports Ground.
‘‘We will continue to work closely with our partners, police and other agencies, to monitor any anti-social behaviour or criminal activity at and around that location.
‘‘The whole area is covered by a Public Spaces Protection Order in relation to ASB connected to alcohol consumption.”
Installation of the system was recently completed by Gareth Hill of Netfit whose expertise was invaluable in enabling the MSA to achieve its goal of acquiring full coverage of the area. This will enable them to provide the police with high definition images and video of any individuals engaging in anti-social behaviour or criminal activity at the grounds as problems arise. The MSA hopes that as a result of the new measures, members of the public will respect the area when visiting the grounds, stop gathering there at night and take away their waste to ensure that the grounds are a safe place for all the children and adults who use the grounds for sporting activities.
Gwent Police have shown support for the new CCTV cameras situated at the grounds and clubhouse.
Joe Facchiano, Community Support Officer for Monmouth said “This should help in identifying those who wish to continue to get involved in Anti-Social Behaviour or commit criminal damage” You’ve been warned!’’
