AFTER yet another three-week lay-off for internationals, Monmouth re-commenced league competition on Saturday away at Abertillery but sadly a win eluded them.

On a pitch that was greasy despite the sunny weather, Monmouth kicked off downhill having lost the toss but in no time at all they kicked possession away to the most dangerous man on the pitch – the Abertillery full back- who ran the ball back deep into Monmouth territory and following a few casual tackle attempts the vistors were seven points down.

Monmouth soon knuckled down and started to pressurise the home team, and following a particularly strong scrum, the ball was fed neatly through hands to the right and then back inside for the Man of the Match winner and ever present flanker Stacey Edwards to cross.
