FIVE Monmouth Rowing Club oarsmen headed out to sea to race 28 miles around the Eddystone Lighthouse.

It should have been a drop in the ocean for Andrew Barnett, who rowed across the Atlantic in 64 days in 2006.

And it was, quite literally, when the 49-year-old became a man overboard when a big wave tipped him in during a crew changeover.

"We were shifting seats on our 30-minute changeover, as we always had four rowing and one coxing, and the boat took a bit of a hit as I was standing up and climbing forwards," said the experienced adventure racer, who has been in training for a marathon running race in the Himalayas.
