A MONMOUTH woman has returned from Nepal after going out to support the development of a new medical centre.
Dee Caulfield has just returned from a three week visit to Nepal where she is involved in the continued support of a medical centre development in a remote village of Nepal in memory of two founder members of the Pahar Trust.
The development, which was due to be completed last year, was set back by the two earthquakes that Nepal endured in April 2015, meaning support has been diverted elsewhere. Despite this setback, the site of the first medical centre is now progressing with hopes of its completion in October.
Two nurses that have been identified to run the new medical centre, with their qualifications very similar to nurse practitioners in this country. They currently work in a very primitive environment and are eager to start work in a purpose-built medical centre.
Dee noticed a big change in the Nepal she has visited many times before. She says the effects of the current blockade by India has had a more far-reaching effect on the people as they are restricted in their daily lives as a result of lack of fuel, meaning a reduction in rubbish collection and lack of medical supplies. Even with this, yet again the amazing Nepali people keep smiling, continue to put the needs of others before themselves and, Dee says, are truly inspirational.
As a result of the two earthquakes, children are more vulnerable, with many having lost parents. Dee is supporting these children to keep them in education to give them ‘choices’ for the future. Sponsorship of a child is £100 a year and supports education, food and medical needs. Anyone interested in knowing more can contact Dee on [email protected]
The completion of the medical centre is due later this year and more are planned in the future.
