A MONMOUTH resident speaks on the distressing impact Storm Claudia has had on her home.
Monmouthshire is still continuing to recover after Storm Claudia brought severe flooding to the town, leaving homes, businesses and community spaces damaged and many residents distraught.
The storm affected many areas, including Monmouth and Abergavenny, which were severely impacted.
The storm hit suddenly after an amber weather warning was released by The Met Office to urge people to stay safe. Residents deemed their home would be a safe place until their homes of many were waterlogged, destroying memorable items, and furniture which created an everlasting impact on the town.
This affected Monmouth resident, Jordan Lewis who was rescued by emergency services after floodwater surged through her home, sweeping away her car.
The Monmouth resident said “There’s so many emotions going through my head. It didn’t seem real.
“I feel good now I'm rescued but knowing that it’s still flooded is scary.
“Water is just coming in and I was like on my god, oh my god and I didn’t know what to do, I was just trying to get my stuff as high as I could and get the dog up to a safe place and then I just had to kind of watch it happen.
“I saw two of the cars push down the water and one smashed into the pole.
As torrential rain hit Monmouth town on November 15, it left her no option but to climb as high as she could until she could be rescued.
Rescue crews reached Jordan and her dog as soon as they could and navigated them on a lifeboat back to safety.
The flooding in Monmouth left many homes and businesses damaged and left lots of residents to be devastated as they were evacuated from their homes. The community has come together, working alongside each other to push their way through this distressing time.
