The return visit of Llanhilleth to the Sports Ground was an opportunity relished by Monmouth to advance their continuing pursuit of promotion while correcting their relative under-performance away only 11 days earlier when they won 15-18.
Having survived an early penalty attempt they were 10-nil in the lead inside 10 minutes thanks to five points from the boot of Rhys Ricketts and wing Gareth Morgan rounding off some good attacking rugby sparked by centre Dewi Lane.
Llanhilleth eventually gained themselves what was to later prove to be their only three points of the game having missed yet another kick at goal with Monmouth gaining two more opportunist tries before half-time courtesy of Dave Morgan and Ludo Thomas, one of which Ricketts converted.
At 22-three the coach exhorted the team to provide more of the same and Will Copley and Ed McCord immediately responded by carrying well and would have scored but for a forward pass.
Llanhilleth resisted well for a while until Gareth Morgan rounded off a good handling move, cutting inside from the right and going over under the posts despite a desperate trip by a wrong-footed defender.
The 29-three lead led to even further desperation on the part of the visitors, who lost two players to yellow cards for fighting which Monmouth were able to capitalise upon, scoring first through Layne in the right corner followed closely by Dewi Lane and then the crowd's favourite, John Powell, charging over untouched over 25 yards from a line-out.
