AFTER a recent documentary about Monmouth was shown on the BBC, the Beacon was contacted by ex-Monmothian, Roy Alan Manchee.

Currently living in Spain, Mr Manchee was alerted to the show by a friend after mention was made by two past employees of Monmouth's Temco parachute factory to his mother, Florence Manchee.

Mrs Manchee was well known in Monmouth during the war, performing around the town with her band (pictured) and taking the time to give dance classes to the workers of the Temco factory during their lunch breaks.

A plea to make contact with the women in the documentary who once knew his mother has been put out by Mr Manchee.

"My aim is to contact the ladies concerned in the BBC  programme about Monmouth and make suitable arrangements to meet up with them at a convenient time," he said.

"I would love to be able to meet up with these folks in the near future during the summer period and perhaps have a party. I am a pianist and can make my contribution as required."

Florence Manchee was well known in the area, a school governor, secretary to the Labour party, band leader, prospective candidate for the town council and secretary to the manager of the electricity board.
