GREG Pendleton is in the Welsh squad to play England at Lords on March 19th for the second year running.

He will be representing the Welsh Association for Cricketers with Disabilities.

Greg, who lives in Monmouth, plays for the Monmouth Cricket Club in the Hereford Marches League and is a pupil at Monmouth Comprehensive School.

The Welsh side will be looking to improve their performance of last year when England were the winners. Greg, however, had a good day with both bat and ball taking wickets with his medium pace right arm bowling and hitting the only six in the Welsh innings.

The games are played in the Lords Indoor Arena adjacent to the most hallowed cricket turf in the world. It is every cricketer's ambition to play at Lords and everything is done to make the event special. The players are given a guided tour which includes the Media Centre which resembles a flying saucer hovering over the ground, and the inner sanctum, the Long room.

This summer will see Wales play Warwickshire, Shropshire and Somerset in a national competition. Last season the side reached the final, played at Trent Bridge, Nottingham, to be beaten by a very strong Yorkshire side.

Greg is grateful to Monmouth Leisure Centre for their help in providing excellent practice facilities to prepare him for an important season. Anyone with a disability who is interested in playing cricket should contact Paul Cartwright on 01978 313352.
