MONMOUTH Comprehensive School is delighted to celebrate the success of our Sixth Form students in their summer examinations. This reflects the incredible effort that they and their teachers have put in to achieve such impressive results. The school was abuzz with students, staff and parents on Thursday morning, celebrating these fantastic outcomes together.

With 150 students entered for a variety of A-Level and vocational courses, MCS has maintained its strong record of academic performance. Over a third of all A-Level results achieved were A*/A grades, placing the school well above national outcomes once again. 83% of grades achieved were A*-C, mirroring last year’s strong outcomes.

Head of Sixth Form, Mr Alex Rodda, commended the hard work of students and their determination to succeed:

“We are very proud of every one of our students receiving their results today. Their achievements reflect not only their academic ability, but also their incredible resilience and dedication. As a fully comprehensive school, we work alongside each individual and it is a privilege to watch them grow in confidence and ambition. Our students are talented in so many fields of study, whether academic or vocational, and seeing that hard work pay off is always rewarding for us. A large number of students achieved the top grades across all their examination courses, including Ruby Ashplant, Jess Cooper-Jones, Olivia Eaves, Amanda Hymans, Poppy Janik, Oliver Jordan, Neil Lawler, Mia Owen, Mary Rowlands, Elsa Sims, Emily Walker and Greg Young.

Particularly inspiring results were achieved across a range of subjects by Alina Matvieva, Liliia Ryabko and Serhii Sylkin, who joined the school having come from Ukraine in 2022. They each go on to study at university in the fields of criminology, business management, and mathematics respectively.

Head Student Rani Smith has secured her place to read English at Merton College, Oxford. She will be joined by Holly Bisson reading Geography at St Hilda’s College and Albert Kent reading History at Balliol College. Further success came for Harry Thomas, securing a place at Cambridge to read Asian and Middle Eastern Studies; and Elin Jones, who has achieved a place at Cambridge to study Veterinary Sciences. Additionally, Owen Lloyd and Osian Jessop secured their places to read Medicine, while Isabelle Young and Olive Lewis were successful in going on to study Veterinary Medicine.

The Headteacher at MCS, Mr Hutchison, praised the work of students, families and staff in achieving such excellent results. Mr Hutchison said:

“It is an absolute joy to see our students’ dedication and resilience recognised today. Whether they are heading to university, beginning an apprenticeship, stepping straight into the workforce, or mapping out other plans for the future, every single student should be immensely proud of their accomplishments. My thanks go to our dedicated staff for their unwavering guidance, as well as to our parents and carers for supporting their children throughout their entire educational journey. We wish all of our students success and happiness in all that lies ahead."
