SKENFRITH started their season with an away game at Kingstone on Thursday.

Under new management and playing with an unfamiliar line-up due to players on holiday, they came up against a fast and well organised Kingstone team.

Skenfrith, playing a four four two formation found themselves 3-0 down at half time.

Reorganised in the second half with five in mid field and one up front they began to play football. From a Mark Diamond corner captain Paul Brown headed home to give Skenfrith some hope. However, having a Darren Bontej goal disallowed summed up a poor and very disappointing 4-1 defeat.

On Saturday Skenfrith played away to a very talented Miners team in Hereford. Yet again Skenfrith got off to a slow start. After 20 minutes of very fast and good play by Miners Skenfrith found themselves 2-0 down, but unlike the previous match they showed strength and character to come back and win a very entertaining game 6-4.

There were some excellent performances from the players. Diamond in particular was outstanding, scoring four goals and being brought down for a penalty which Bontej put away.

The midfield of E Thomas, P Brown, S Hughes and W Jones battled well and produced some good football. Even though Skenfrith conceded four goals the back four of S Vernal, K Price, A Wigmore and C Nash all had a good performance. Goalkeeper Ian Jenkins made some outstanding saves. Skenfrith brought on K Warman for E Thomas and he did a good job on the right side of midfield.

Man of the match Mark Diamond stole the day. He had a classy performance in front of goal. Skenfrith's other goal scorer was S hughes.

Skenfrith are at home on Saturday to Bulmers in a cup game. Kick off is at 2 pm.

The Club would like to thank The Bell Inn for their new kit and everybody who has put work into the Club this season.
