Police are investigating an incident near Raglan which left two men with serious eye injuries.

The men, aged 57 and 54, from Tredegar, were in a silver Volkswagen Passat travelling on the B4598 towards Abergavenny on Wednesday 27th March at about 7pm when they heard a loud bang and felt pain in their eyes.

They found a hole in the windscreen and broken glass from a bottle inside the car which had hit and come through the windscreen.

The driver and the passenger were bleeding and went straight to Nevill Hall Hospital in Abergavenny.

The 57-year-old driver was kept in hospital for six days, he will never have 100 per cent sight in his right eye again and may never regain sight in it at all.

The 54-year-old passenger also received cuts to both eyes.

At the time of the incident, when the victims heard the bang, a car was travelling past them in the opposite direction – it may have been a silver car.

At the moment the incident is being treated as an assault, officers are keeping an open mind and trying to establish whether the glass bottle was thrown deliberately from another vehicle.

It's believed the victims were near the turning to Clytha when it happened. There were also two cars some distance ahead of them at the time.

Officers are appealing to anyone who may have been in the area at the time, saw the incident, any vehicle being driven erratically or items being thrown to contact them on 101 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
