More than 20 years after setting out on his quest, an Usk war veteran's dream has come true.

The memoirs of Alfred Leighton Bowen can now be read in book form.

Mr Bowen set about composing his memoirs in the early 1980s after gentle persuasion from his wife Mary.

After many failed attempts at getting them published, he got in touch with the Beacon who ran a story detailing his plight.

Reader Tony Smith, of Penrhos, put the newapaper in touch with Ryan Gearing, of the military booksellers and publishers Tommies Guides.

Ryan kindly offered to publish Leighton's memoirs as a book, a service usually based around some kind of assisted funding.
