MEMBERS of Monmouth Judo Club crossed the border to take part in the first Bristol Classic Open Championship, held at Bradley Stoke Judo Club, near Bristol, and came back with a clutch of medals. Margaret Williams picked up a silver medal while bronze medals went to Richard Nash and Jemma Lloyd.

Later in the month Coach John Keating went behind the wheel to take a mini-bus to the Welsh Institute for Sport in Cardiff to enable members to take part in the official Welsh Judo Association promotion examination.

The results, which were extremely rewarding, are as follows: From novice to 4th Mon yellow belt, Felix Brown; from 3rd Mon to 5th Mon yellow belt with two tabs, Elliot Cockburn; from 7th Mon to 10th Mon green belt with one tab, Claudia Craven; from 10th Mon to 11th Mon green belt with two tabs, Robert Fleming; from 16th Mon to 2nd Kyu, a senior brown belt grade, Kimberely Nash; from 16th Mon to 17th Mon brown belt with two tabs, Richard Nash; from 6th Mon to 8th Mon orange belt with two tabs, Matthew Scott and from 14th Mon to 15th Mon blue belt with three tabs, Margaret Williams.

Mr Keating was very pleased with all club members who have worked hard during the weekly training sessions both in technique and stamina building exercises to prepare themselves for contests.

Dixton Judo Club trains very Sunday from 3pm-5pm at Monmouth Leisure Centre. All ages and abilities are welcome to join this popular local club.
