Dog wardens will soon be a thing of the past in Monmouthshire as the post is to be axed by the county council.
Monmouthshire County Council (MCC) is suggesting a number of ways in which people should deal with stray dogs once the post has gone after 1st April, but a Monmouth vet is unhappy with the advice.
A public notice issued by the council tells the finders of stray dogs they can;
• Seek to return to the owner if the dog has a collar and identity tag.
• Take the dog to a vet to check if chipped. If so the owner can be identified.
• Take the dog to MCC's nominated kennels – Whitewall Kennels and Cat Hotel in Magor.
• Release the dog.
