A FIFTEEN-year-old with stage 4 Hodgkin’s Lymphoma has been presented with a cheque for more than £800 after a group took part in a fundraising walk.

On Saturday 17th March more than 60 people and their pets from Modern Samurai Martial Arts in Bulwark, Chepstow set off in fancy dress and silly footwear for the sponsored walk a mile in my shoes challenge. The aim was to raise money for local girl Jessica Way who at 15 was diagnosed with stage 4 Hodgkin’s Lymphoma. Some of the students at the club know Jessica personally and said she is a lovely young lady who was handling her treatment with a great positive attitude.

Matt Stait, chief instructor of Modern Samurai martial arts said: “When I heard about Jessica’s story I felt we as a club wanted to help. I would like to add my thanks to all who supported us on the walk and to all of the sponsors. It was a bitterly cold afternoon but we had a lot of fun.”

On Sunday 25th March once all the money was collected Matt was very pleased to hand Jessica a cheque for £805 towards her get well fund. Jessica added that when she has finished her Chemotherapy and is well again she is looking forward to taking some classes.
