The following statement has been issued by Debbie McCarty, Area Services Manager for Monmouthshire County Council, with reference to Monmouth Market.

"Over the past months there has been much speculation as to what is going to happen, or even what should happen to the general market in Monmouth.

"The council has been considering the way forward for markets across Monmouthshire, and is now looking at a development and business plan to ensure their continuing vibrant contribution to the county.

"This plan should be ready for discussion with all interested parties within a few months.

"The existing arrangements for Monmouth market will continue as they are, while this plan is being developed."
