Monmouth market returned to the Shire Hall last Saturday (29th October) after an absence of three years and a lively campaign by traders to return to their traditional pitch.
Launched with street entertainers, musicians and local TV personalities, Monmouthshire County Council (MCC) pulled out all the stops to ensure the saga that has sparked more readers letters to the Monmouthshire Beacon and filled more front pages than any other story this year, was eventually heralded as another success story for MCC.
A petition with 2,500 signatures demanded the return of the market earlier this year, as campaigners claimed that MCC had constantly changed their mind.
But Saturday saw the return to normal, as the traders once again took up their familiar pitches and resumed trading.
