MONMOUTH was well represented in the London Marathon on Sunday, 23rd April with residents, running at both amateur and club levels, completing the race for charity.

Mind over matter for former Monmouth Comprehensive pupil

STEPHEN Lloyd, a former Monmouth Comprehensive student, took part in the London Marathon on Sunday, 23rd April finishing in three hours and 15 minutes.

He is pictured with his sisters Joanna and Alyson after completing the race.

He has only been running for just over a year as he always thought he couldn’t run long distance but has proved that wrong and raised over £1,100 for the mental health charity Mind.

Mind provides advice and support to empower anyone experiencing a mental health problem. They campaign to improve services, raise awareness and promote understanding.

Running to raise funds for Scoliosis

MONMOUTH runner Emma Harries finished the London Marathon on Sunday, 23rd April raising money for Scoliosis Campaign Fund SCF) in the process.

Miss Harries finished the race in four hours and two minutes, beating the time of SCF James Zorab, who challenged her to take on the marathon, he finished in four hours and 12 minutes.

Miss Harries said: “The crowds were truly amazing tho-ugh, strangers shouting your name and offering you sweets and support the whole way round was heartwarming.

“My friends and family came to watch me at miles 10 and 22 which were much needed boosts on my way around the course. Hearing them cheer and support me was such good motivation!”

Spirited effort from Monmouth group

ON Sunday April 23rd, Iain McCallum, Toby Wales (pictured) and Ruth Ward represented Spirit of Monmouth Running Club at the London Marathon.

Toby Wales completed the iconic 26.2-mile course in three hours 55 minutes.

Iain McCallum crossed the finish line in four hours 23 minutes and Ruth Ward achieved a time of four hours 45 minutes.

Locally, Paul Mcafee and Jeremy Creasey took part in the tough and hilly 20-kilometre Offa’s Orror race near Tintern. Paul McAfee finished in a time of one hour 59 minutes and Jeremy Creasey in a time of two hours and 6 minutes.
