A MONMOUTH man will be running the London Marathon this year in aid of a local charity.

Tony Rex is hoping to raise a total of £3,000 for Monmouth Aid, a local charity affiliated to ActionAid, a charity who work in Africa, Asia and Latin America focusing on very targeted projects to support communities.

Monmouth Aid have just begun a new fund-raising programme this year to fund the building of three classroom blocks at Condlana Primary School in Mozambique. There are over 600 children at the school and many lessons are held outdoors due to the lack of classroom space. Government funding on education is steadily decreasing in Mozambique despite the number of children enrolling in school increasing each year. This project is therefore incredibly important in promoting access to quality primary education.

"My target is to raise £3,000 in running ’the London’," Tony said. "This is roughly 10 per cent of the fund-raising target for the school. It’s a real privilege to be part of this project and I’m very grateful for any support you can pledge."

To mark its fundraising for a new  school improvement project in Mozambique, Monmouth Aid will also be holding a Spring Ball on Saturday 23rd May at The Shire Hall, Monmouth.
