A 44-YEAR-OLD pedestrian from Tredegar died following a collision involving a white Mercedes Sprinter van near Usk on Sunday (1st February).

The incident on the A449 happened some time before 5.40am.

A 41-year-old man from Monmouth was arrested and placed in police custody. He has since been released on bail.

Both carriageways of the A449 were closed while police carried out an investigation.

A police spokesperson said: "The collision was reported to us at 5.39am. 

"It involved a white Mercedes Sprinter van and a pedestrian. The pedestrian, a 44-year-old man from Tredegar, sadly died at the scene."
