SIR,

I have decided to stand in the county council election on 3rd May for Drybridge Ward.

For the past 12 months I have been campaigning and working hard to improve the ambulance provision in Monmouth. I have hosted and attended many meetings.

I have learnt that Monmouth needs fresh ideas and representatives who stand up for the many, not the few.

I am proud of this town's history, its natural beauty and the people who reside within it.

I grew up here and attended Monmouth Comprehensive School. I was later employed by DS Smith, the largest factory in Monmouth.

Consequently, I know what it is like to have to work your way up in the real world. It's hard, and I can help give a hand up to others.

Indeed, I returned to Monmouth in January 2011 after finishing university and working abroad as a teacher and journalist.

I was shocked to observe the way the town and county are neglected. Therefore, I have decided to complement my academic career by standing up for Monmouth. It is time for a change of political culture, one which delivers.

My campaign will be a positive one and will focus on ideas and practical solutions which are concerned with helping people and moving beyond the status quo I believe we currently entertain.

Consequently, I wish my opponents well, and look forward to meeting the electorate. I hope that whoever people choose will commit to working hard for Monmouthshire.

I can make that commitment without reservation.

Mathew Davies
