Sir,

I have lived in Monmouth for most of my life and believe that the Town Council do a good job for the people it represents.

However, I, and others, are a bit puzzled by the apparent division of views on the closed circuit tv cameras.

Surely Monmouthshire County Council looked into the matter thoroughly before committing itself to something like £13,000 on the CCTV circuit.

I would also have thought the other towns involved in the scheme also thought long and hard before giving their backing, and cash, to the cameras.

From what I had read, I thought the cameras played a vital role in the fight against crime.

If that isn't right, then the Town Council are right not to give £12,000 towards the cameras. But if they are wrong, they should find the cash immediately.
