Madeleine Korn, 19, from Monmouth has been chosen from over 1100 applicants to win a place on the Vodafone Foundation's 2009 World of Difference UK Programme.
The programme gives 500 people from across the UK the opportunity to work for a charity of their choice.
Madeleine has chosen to spend two months working for her chosen local charity, Concern Universal, an organisation based in Hereford which supports initiatives that improve the daily lives of people living in some of the world's poorest communities.
Madeleine first became involved with Concern Universal when she took part in a fundraising firewalk for the charity.
The Vodafone Foundation will pay each charity a total £2,500 of which the winner gets the balance once tax and National Insurance has been paid.
In addition, the company will donate a new mobile phone with pre-paid credit so winners can capture their experiences and share it on vodafone.co.uk/worldofdifference to inspire others.
Madeleine will spend her placement with Concern Universal as a Fundraising Support Officer, raising awareness and support for the charity through writing and distributing promotional material, as well as helping to launch their new 'Leadership for a Global Future' initiative.
She said: "I am so delighted to have this opportunity to work with such a driven organisation that supports practical actions which enable people to improve their own lives and shape their own futures."
Madeleine will begin her placement in January.
