Luke Jones, the reigning 125cc British Champion, is Herefordshire's Sports Personality for 2007. The award presentation is to take place at the Royal National Blind College in Hereford on Thursday, February 21st at 7.30 pm. Luke's grandfather, Clive, who lives in Ross told The Ross Gazette: "The family feel very proud of his achievements in 2007, and now of this award." He said that friends and followers had joined in to say well done to the young motorcyclist. For 2008 Luke has secured a full season of racing with the well-known UK 1?Racing team. He will be riding a a 600cc R6 Yamaha in the class 600 Junior Super Stock at all the British Championship meetings. Luke will have two bikes available, plus a mechanic and Neil Mackenzie, the ex British Champion, will be his mentor. Clive said:?"We tested the bikes at Donnington Park last Saturday and all went well. The team will be going to Spain on February 27th a further five days of testing. The first competition for Luke will be at Brands Hatch over the weekend of 4th, 5th, 6th April, and we will be hoping he does well. We are all very grateful to Luke's main sponsors Ken Davies of KGD, Rotherwas, Hereford and to Ken Jones. Without their help he would not be able to race." ITV?Channel 4 will be screening the British Championships this year.
