SIR, Monmouthshire County Council cannot be serious about taking our swimming pool away. I am 73 years old and an ex-pupil of the now comprehensive school, previously secondary modern school. Our swimming lessons involved the teacher tying a rope around our waists and standing on the bank of the River Wye holding us in the river where we tried bravely to swim. After this experience, no one ever wanted to try again. A girl my age, then 13, went in the Wye after school for practice and drowned. Please pupils, don't even think about swimming in the river. The Wye has taken so many lives. We waited years for this swimming pool and now we are losing it. You can't do this, the pool belongs to Monmouth. Hands off!
