THE Proclamation of the first king since 1936 was made to the people of Monmouthshire outside County Hall, at The Rhadyr in Usk at 3.30pm on Sunday (September 11) 2022..

Members of the public attended along with county councillors, past chairman of the county council, town and community councillors and their families.

The Proclamation of King Charles III was made outside County Hall by the Chair of Monmouthshire Council, Cllr Laura Wright (right).

The proclamation was given in Welsh by County Councillor Tudor Thomas, with Professor Simon Gibson, CBE, Deputy Lieutenant of Gwent leading the proceedings.

The Chair of Monmouthshire County Council, Cllr Laura Wright said: “GOD SAVE THE KING!”

It was a historic moment – the last time a king was declared was when Queen Elizabeth’s father George VI assumed the throne 84 years ago.
